Where To Find Treasures In Texas

What was the name of the incident where a man declared himself king in the 1800′s and the US sent a warship?

I am trying to find out exactly when and where this incident happened. I remember reading about in a treasure magazine in the mid-1980′s. The incident was similar to the Waco, Texas incident, but this one happened in the 1800′s. The US sent a warship up a river (Mississippi?) and blew his kingdom up. Does anyone know anything about this incident?
No, this was an incident that occurred in the USA. I had a copy of the article with others on domestic terrorism. The box has been lost and I am trying to track down another copy or better information on the incident.
I’m pretty sure it was a cult of some sort and was located on an island. The leader gave the government a lot of grief, but they didn’t take any real action until he declared himself a king.

The only I can think it is either the nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte and those days Louisiana was a french colony that was later sell ed to USA, the other one it is Maximilian that was crooned King by the french in Mexico, that lead to the capture and landing of the US marines in Veracruz,Mexico under Captain Pierce or something.
