Thunder eggs, or geodes, are rock formations which occur in volcanic and sedimentary rocks determined. Stones appear regularly abroad typically outside of limestone, but have quartz crystal formations inside. They are called thunder eggs by treasure hunters because they resemble the eggs very large due to its smooth exterior and round shape. If you are interested in any type of treasure hunting you may want to start with these thunder eggs, or geodes.
The real value of the geodes is their appearance when halved and polished. The crystal formations typically come in a wide variety of colors, from Deep Purple to pink, blue and even silver crystal. The same rock formations leave a wavy design in color, and inside the crystals emit a flash of fire. Some thunder eggs that have found are so large that have been made into furniture, such as coffee or side tables. Addition of a base and a glass top makes the rock into a very interesting and heavy furniture.
Geodes
It is often difficult to know what will be inside those geodes until you actually split open, and usually require some polish to bring them to their full potential when it comes to brightness and splendor.
If you are interested in finding some geodes you need to know or where to find them. You may not find in your backyard, unless you live in Utah or Mexico. Other area where Thunder Eggs have been found is Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Geode State Park in Henry County, Iowa Iowa designated the geode as the official stone the state in 1967.
Geodes
Rock Hound State Park in Deming, New Mexico is open to the public for Rock Hounds of all ages. He is known for its wide variety of mineral specimens due to ancient volcanic activity in the area. Geodes are found littering the valley floor. Look round or oval shaped rocks with a surface like bumps look like a cauliflower. Use your rock hammer and break the rock. There is no easy way to determine what you have until you break the rock open. Thunder The eggs are also found in the rocks of the desert walls. watch out for snakes and scorpions, to arrive at any outcrop.
According to Wikipedia, a pocket-sized big truck was discovered in Ohio in the early 1900s in an area now known as Crystal Cave. Actually you can do tours of the area during the summer. While it is unlikely that you will find pockets as big as his vehicle, the point is that they are obviously out there and can be very valuable.
When searching for thunder eggs it's best to have with you a reliable guide that maps of the desert areas or certain cave formations where you can find. It is also imperative that you pay close attention to their own personal safety and never go spelunking or exploring in the wilderness alone and without proper precautions.
