What is classed as “Treasure Trove ” ..? ( UK Law )?

A mate of mine has just Found 3 Gold Coins on his local beach with his Metal Detector , They look french and are about 1 inch in Dia..etc.and dated 1510…What should he do now..?
update… iv found pix for the very same coins we found… (email to see them )

Although “Treasure Trove” is a common term, it no longer exists. In 1996, there was an Act to abolish it. You can find this Act on the first link.

Although you speak of UK Law, Scotland does, in fact, have separate laws. Although I didn’t look for a statement of the Law, exactly, you can see the difference on the second link.

The third and fourth links might interest you too.

Although the Law says differently, I guess it’s up to your friend what he does with regard to reporting his find.

Swimming in golden waters, tiny fish in vibrant colors evoke childhood memories for Frank Nortei Nortey. “This work talks about the treasures of the world, expressing wealth and how the precious things of the world are rather hidden under the earth. I decided to use fish because of how significant they are to humanity,” the Ghanaian artist says.
