sunken treasure books
Question regarding sunken treasure?

I recall reading a Peter Benchley book called “The Island”, which dealt with sunken treasure. I recall a charactor stating that silver corrodes steadily over time when submersed in salt water, until eventually it is just a “skeleton” of it’s former self. But he also stated that if silver (coins, I assume) were lying against or in close proximity to gold , (coins or bullion), that the silver would be nearly unaffected by the effects of salt water.
True or false?

False. If they were in proximity to a sacrificial metal such as zinc then this would seem plausible.
