Metal Detector Junior

Just as I firmly believe in keeping detailed records, as a treasure hunter, it is very important to meet the requirements for record keeping coin collecting. Anyone purchasing a quantity of coins must keep records on purchases. This should include the price paid for each currency and the date purchase, so if you sell the coins for the loss or gain can be calculated as a capital gain or ordinary income. If for any reason to tell or deduction expenditure relating to coins, these costs should be paid by check and obtained a receipt or invoice.
Distributors also document each sale, regardless size and issue an invoice to the buyer. For all cash transactions over $ 10,000, the distributors must report to the IRS on Form 8300 and send a copy to the buyer.
There is no requirement of ten years for records of sales of the coin and this allows taxpayers to comply with all registration requirements for collectors, traders and investors. It is also important to describe and maintain the state and local sales tax records, and commission paid and other expenses incurred in the sale of coins.
If you buy coins, barter / trade for them, or find with your metal detector, maintenance sales records of all currencies is essential. If you just collect coins with the intention of ever selling, record keeping could make a big difference later if you have a change of mentality. I started collecting coins in 1962 as a sophomore in high school.
He had idea that I was selling a single currency. About five years later, as a Junior College, I saw that could help cover college expenses, buying and selling coins. Morgan BU rolls of dollars could be purchased for about $ 40. 00 and are sold individually or in small lots of approximately twice the cost. I did something big money with just one technique. That was a few years before I got into metal detecting which reversed the overall approach to collection and sale of coins.
