What is a transistor 184b comparable to bc?

I am building a metal detector in http://www.easytreasure.co.uk/bfo.htm and purchase of Digikey parts but suggested the transistor is not available in quantities that would like to purchase. Can you suggest a similar role? I have a lot of experience in the construction of circuits for physics laboratories but knowledge is not enough to find easily at the mine. Thank you!
