where are good metal detecting places?

I have been searching my back yard and only found old rusty nails and bolts.

Parks, beaches, near a gold mine (wink) large open fields like at a ball park or anywhere groups of people would meet, at a campground or along roadside. These are only a few places you can search for goods. Most areas though if they are controlled by Parks and Recreation ask only that you respect the land and not go digging with a shovel and leave open holes or destroy the ground badly.
