Dad found this metal detecting?

Dad found this metal detecting all he knows is it’s a black powder pistol. Found near an old gold mining camp in Northern California. Does anyone know what make or age it is or a site I could look to find out? Thanks!

Contact the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association at www.nmlra.com and ask them about the gun in question. They have a man who is quite knowledgeable about antique guns who may be able to help you with the identification.
