Underappreciated or overlooked cinema?

I’m sick and tired of movies being advertised as a grandiose super hit, and then becoming angry at the realization of having wasted two or more hours of my life that I will never get back.

I need suggestions please, or I give up on film altogether. That may not mean anything to you, since you’ve never met me and mockery is delivered best when the target is safely out of range behind a computer….smoking a cigarette……losing respect for all humanity with every passing minute….

I’ve seen most of the popular hits, and classic gems like The Princess Bride. I’m looking for amazing movies that may not have had a lot of hype. The overlooked treasures I like to call them.

I promise to watch every movie suggested, given I haven’t seen it. Thumbs ups and recognition will be amply given.

you have some great taste and I know that there are some really awful films out there that can be called “product” and not “art”

since you appreciate a good foreign film, I would recommend “Rouge” or “The Double Life of Veronique” both by the same director, Kieslowski.

Eternal Sunshine is one of my favorites, so maybe you would appreciate my favorite movie, Sense & Sensibility.

Fargo is also a good movie by the Coen Bros. Right now everyone is saying No Country For Old Men is good. It has its moments and is worth watching, but Fargo is probably their best. I also liked Hudsucker Proxy by them.

The guy who did 12 Monkeys (Gilliam) also did Tideland which is extremely underrated and recent. Anyway, it is one of my most favorite movies.

Also I Heart Huckabees is something a little wacky and very enjoyable.
