metal detecting treasures?

i have a metal detector and i have not really found anything of great value yet (50 bucks in clad) I would like to hear some of the things that u found with a metal detector and how u found them.

First of all I go to where there used to be a house many years ago…usually in a field off the beaten path. I have found many coins from the 1800′s and early 1900′s this way. I have also found a revolutionary war era shoe buckle. And the forerunner of a rubber stamp. It was was made of wood and the stamp part was steel. It was for a purveyor of the finest eggs, milk, cheese and dairy products. It was appraised and dated for around 1870.
I took my detector out on the bike path just for the heck of it and found a class ring from 1971.
I returned it to the owner as he still had family in this area and I got to track him down that way. Seems he and his steady girl had a tiff and she threw his ring out of the car window. They never could find it again. That was pretty neat that I found it.
Now I don’t know where you live…but I read up a lot about the Civil War and in some cases families buried or hid their gold and valuables in their outhouses. A lot of these treasures haven’t been found…the families died or moved whatever reason…now the outhouse area would be all black dirst but the treasusres should still be there. IF you can find where an outhouse was at some old and abandoned plantation.
I always wanted to do that. Unfortunately I live in New York.
