A friend of mine claims to have a bar of plutonium, is it possibly hidden just like treasures?

i’m just wondering if plutonium is possibly available in our place (Cebu, Philippines). He described it as silvery white hard metal. Recently, a certain buyer negotiated to buy the item. If it is a real thing what would happen to somebody handling it without prescribed gloves?

Your friend is a moron for a slew of reasons.

1. Most plutonium isotopes emit levels of radiation fatal to all animals and humans exposed to it nearby, even for short durations. This radiation will penetrate all but the most specialized containment systems (that are usually made out of very thick lead.) In other words, ‘gloves’ are not going to save him from getting serious acute radiation poisoning in the near term or if he’s lucky enough not to get that, he will eventually die from cancer afew years from now.

2. Possession of plutonium or other highly radioactive substances is heavily regulated by international organizations because of its inherently dangerous nature. Not every schmo can get a “bar” or rod of plutonium. He probably stole it. This is a very very serious crime commonly associated with international terrorism by the USA and its allies. Your friend, if he hasn’t already died from radiation poisoning already, may one day get a surprisingly very violent visit from elements of the US special forces tasked to retrieve this material from him. Not good eh?

Then again, your friend is probably full of crap and is just making this up.
