Pussycat Dolls Present: a Robotic Treasure

Ever been considered odd or different by the people around you, whether at school, at work or in your neighborhood? Yet at the same time, are you a fan of the CW’s reality television competition series Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll? If you say yes to both, then you might have felt a twinge of sympathy or admiration for eliminated contestant Sisely Treasure, who was described by series creator and judge Robin Antin as being “different” and “unique” compared to the other girls. To put it more bluntly, she didn’t act the part enough of a candid sex kitten bordering on slut, not quite banking on her figure and breasts as typically done by the singing group.

Despite not coming out on top of the show, however, Treasure has already performed as an experienced vocalist and musician. She previously worked with a dance music group named the Cooler Kids, whose roster included veteran Luscious Jackson bassist Jill Cunniff. The Cooler Kids were a relatively successful band of dance musicians and singers, having opened for the band Erasure during a 2003 concert tour. They also put out a song titled “All Around the World,” which reached the Billboard Dance Music charts and was featured on the soundtrack for the feature film The Lizzie McGuire Movie.

Treasure’s latest venture is performing as a front woman for the punk-garage group The Safety Pin-Ups, whose members include people from different bands such as Peachfuzz, the Glossines, and Blondie. One of their initial singles has been a cover of the classic 70s punk song “Do the Robot,” originally by The Saints. Their cover version was released by Teenacide Records with only 1000 copies, but fans can still give it a listen at Treasure’s MySpace page. It was notably picked out and featured by The Sopranos actor Steven Van Zandt on his own list of cool songs.
