Stanley Yelnats, a regular kid, gets hit by a pair of sneakers stolen from a charity auction that was donated by Clyde Livingston. Stanley was accused that he stole the shoes. At the trial he had a choice of going to jail or Camp Greenlake in Texas. He learned about a curse that runs in the family for several generations because his great-great-great grandpa broke a promise to carry this one lady up a hill. At camp, Stanley has to dig holes at the dried up lake as punishment for a crime he didn’t commit. He later finds out that they’re digging for treasure from Kissing Kate Barlow. Stanley made friends with Zero, a boy Stanley tries to teach how to read, then they both ran away. They came back to camp to find the treasure which turns out that it belongs to the Yelnats family. Stanley is pronounced innocent and with the money in the treasure his family became rich.
