Impossible to know.
Hidden treasure was a means to ‘stash’ the loot and then COME BACK for it later.
Pirates never used this method to hid this stuff for a long period of time, just until the “heat was off”.
Hidden treasure is RARE.
Sunken treasure is another story all together.
And you really need to DEFINE the term ‘treasure’.
Historical artifacts today ARE quite the treasure, along with gold money, gold items, jewelry, silver money, items made of silver, gold and silver bars, among many, many other things.
There’s a ‘sunken treasure’ in Lake Michigan that’s been worth a fortune.
Once upon a time there was a huge lumber operation on the coast of Canada and due to one storm or another, a ton a huge, solid, gorgeous Canadian timber was sunk to the bottom of Lake Michigan.
Due to the depth. mud, and cold, this timber is extraordinary and perfectly preserved …… and HARD AS METAL. (they have to use special diamond chains on the saws to even cut the wood)
A fortune has been made off of it by bringing up logs and making fancy furniture, tables, chairs and such from it.
One piece costs thousands of dollars.
Like I said, it depends on your idea of ‘sunken treasure’.
As for how much is sunken in the Caribbean ….. tons of it.
A lot we actually know of due to shipping records …. some we don’t.
What’s it all worth?
Some is invaluable.
