The gold metal detecting?

Does anyone know if is possible to detect metallic gold in the UK? I was looking at comments on a detector Minelab metal, the GPX4000 and people are finding tons of gold nuggets in Alaska, USA and Australia. But I have not heard anything in the UK although the model above is officially on sale in the UK and is aimed at detecting only Gold! I would get one but is useless if there is no gold found in the UK. HELP!

There are gold, judging by the gold mines in Cornwall and Wales, and the traces found in Derbyshire fluorspar mines. Moreover, at a World Championship gold washing took place somewhere in Scotland. Check geological maps and studies of likely places, but warns that it is not likely to find native gold nuggets enormous dust specks and gold are more likely. Hordes containing gold occasional turn occasionally, well, are generally people with metal detectors and a stroke of luck. Often, dating from the Middle Ages and tend to be collections of coins, rings, brooches, and other pieces of jewelry, these findings should be reported to relevant authorities if they are of any size, more than a couple of coins. They tend to end up in museums, but he found they were not paid for their finding. There was a find a couple of years ago from Saxon sword with golden thread work on the remains of the grip, and a more recent discovery of a sealed cup full of coins.
